As-Salaamu-Alaikum wa Ramadan Mubarak!

After 29 full days of fasting, Believers will search for the hilal (new crescent moon sighting) ending the month of Ramadan and beginning the month of Shawwal on Saturday night, June 24th. If the moon is sighted the fast will end after 29 days of fasting and the Eid will be celebrated on Sunday June 25th. If the moon is not sighted, we will fast an additional day, making a full 30 days of fasting and the Eid will be celebrated on Monday, June 26th.

Astronomical projections indicate that there is a slight possibility of sighting the moon on Saturday night (June 24th) with the naked eye in a small section of the Southwest corner of the continental United States, with ideal conditions. However, it is most probable that a sighting will not be made and the first day of Shawwal and Eidul-Fitr will be Monday, June 26, 2017 (subject to a confirmed moon sighting). We will announce sightings on our website: www.iwdmcommunity.com.

Please note, sightings are possible in other parts of the world on Saturday night, but astronomical projections are most probable for Sunday night, June 25th for the continental USA. The Section Conveners and Imams associated with the Community of Imam W. Deen Mohammed adhere to the general principle of local sighting (within the continental USA) with the naked eye.

We use Allah’s gift of science to help pinpoint when and where naked eye sightings are most likely to be possible to guide our sighting efforts.

If the moon is sighted with the naked eye, please contact your local Imam who should then notify their Section Convener with the details of the sighting. Pictures and details of the sighting would be most helpful to provide additional clarification.

Wherever Muslims are in the world, we pray that you have experienced a blessed and beneficial Ramadan and have a wonderful Eidul-Fitr!

Eid Mubarak!!!
